Introduction
A Learning Path is a curated collection of related courses that, when completed, can lead to the awarding of a Certificate of Completion to the learner. These Learning Paths are designed to provide a structured learning experience, guiding learners through a series of courses that build upon one another.
In addition to individual course enrollments, Learning Paths can enroll learners in multiple courses simultaneously. This feature is particularly beneficial when creating learners in bulk, as it allows you to "pre-load" them into a Learning Path, thereby ensuring that they are automatically assigned to the necessary courses required for their educational journey.
Creating Learning Paths
To initiate the creation or modification of a Learning Path, you need to navigate to the Learning Paths tab and click on the "Add Learning Path" option. This is the starting point for defining a new Learning Path.
Below is a detailed list of the fields that are integral to the configuration of a Learning Path:
- Name - This field requires you to specify the name of the Learning Path, which should be descriptive and reflective of the content it encompasses.
- Category - Here, you can assign a category to the Learning Path, although this is optional. Categorization helps in organizing Learning Paths for more straightforward navigation.
- Status - You have the option to mark the Learning Path as either Active or Archived, depending on its current relevance.
- Affiliation - This optional field allows you to specify any affiliations associated with the Learning Path, making it more relevant to specific groups.
- Self-Registration - This field allows you to determine whether learners can enroll themselves in the courses included in the Learning Path. If set to "Yes," learners have the freedom to choose their courses. However, it’s essential to note that if a fee is associated with any of the courses, that charge will be applied to their account, regardless of the Learning Path's overall pricing structure.
- Should Enroll Learner into Courses - This option allows you to decide whether learners should be automatically enrolled in pre-selected sections within the Learning Path. Setting it to "Yes" ensures that learners do not miss out on essential courses.
- Duration (days) - This field allows you to specify the total duration of the Learning Path in days, which can help set expectations for completion.
- Price - You can optionally set a price for the Learning Path, which can be advantageous if you wish to offer a bundled rate rather than individual course fees.
- Tags - This optional field allows you to attach tags to the Learning Path, facilitating easier searching and categorization within the system.
- Highlighted - By selecting this option, a star will be added next to the Learning Path in the catalog, making it stand out to potential learners.
- Payment Type - By selecting "Upfront," payment for the entire Learning Path will be required. Alternatively, selecting "Pay as You Go" enables Learners to pay for Learning Path courses individually as they enroll, rather than paying the total price upfront. If "Pay as You Go" is selected, your organization can charge an optional registration fee for the Learning Path itself by using the "Price" field.
- Note:
- There are no restrictions or conditions around the "Pay as You Go" feature other than ensuring the "Should Enroll Learner Into Courses" option is set to "No."
- In the Catalog, Learners will see a price range for any Learning Paths configured with "Pay as You Go". This range represents the sum of the lowest-priced sections for each course as the minimum and the sum of the highest-priced sections for each course as the maximum.
- Note:
- Available For Registration - This critical field determines if the Learning Path is available in the catalog for learners to enroll in. If marked "No," learners will not be able to self-enroll and will require manual enrollment from the backend.
- Payment Options - This setting allows you to specify which payment methods are available at checkout. If left blank, all payment options will be accessible to learners.
- Short Description - Here, you can provide a brief description of the Learning Path that will be displayed while learners browse the catalog. This is an optional field, but it can significantly enhance the appeal of the Learning Path.
- Long Description - This is a more detailed description of the Learning Path that can be viewed after a learner clicks on the "Enroll" or "More Info" buttons in the catalog. Providing comprehensive details can help learners make informed decisions.
- Video Tutorial - You can include a video by entering a URL from YouTube or Vimeo. This video will be integrated into the Long Description in the catalog, offering a visual guide to prospective learners.
- Keywords - Adding keywords to this field will enhance the visibility of the Learning Path in search results, making it easier for learners to find relevant content.
- Catalog Image - You can enter the URL of an image that you upload in the File Upload section of the Administration menu. This image serves as a visual representation of the Learning Path in the catalog.
- Certificate - This field allows you to select which certificate will be awarded to learners upon their successful completion of the Learning Path. This is an optional but essential aspect that can motivate learners.
- Expires and Renew Rules - Here, you can set the rules that determine if a Learning Path has an expiration date and how long learners must wait before they can renew their enrollment.
- Courses - This section is where you will add the courses that comprise the Learning Path, ensuring that the content is relevant and comprehensive.
- Completion Rule - This field allows you to define the specific criteria that must be met for a learner to be marked as "Complete" in the Learning Path.
Additionally, you have the option to upload an image that will serve as a preview for the Course Catalog. This can enhance the visual appeal of the Learning Path. Moreover, you can define a grouped price for the Learning Path, as opposed to charging for each course, which can be more attractive to learners.
Adding Courses to a Learning Path
Once you have filled out the basic information for the Learning Path, you can proceed to add courses. To do this, click on the "Add a course" button located in the Courses section of the Learning Path. A new window will pop up, allowing you to:
- Select the courses you wish to add, with the requirement that you must include at least two classes to create a viable Learning Path.
- Define the sort order for presenting these courses within the Learning Path, ensuring a logical flow for learners.
Auto Expire
If you enable the 'Auto Expire' feature, the Learning Path will automatically be marked as "expired" after a specified period. The expiration date is determined based on the Start Date of the learner's enrollment in the Learning Path, ensuring that learners are aware of their timelines.
Auto Renew
By enabling the 'Auto Renew' feature, the system will automatically reenroll the learner in the same Learning Path once their current enrollment is about to expire. This is particularly useful for certifications or programs that require regular renewal.
Completion Rule
The Completion Rule is a crucial aspect of the Learning Path, as it allows you to establish various criteria based on different completion variables. These variables may include the total number of courses completed within the Learning Path, the number of credits earned, or specific courses that must be completed within the Learning Path. By customizing these rules, you can control when a learner is officially marked as "Complete" for the Learning Path.
Examples of Completion Rules
A) 3 Required Courses
This rule stipulates that learners must complete three designated courses to fulfill the learning Path requirements.
Note: The Total Criteria section on the right is set to "AND Courses Completed: 3." This setting is important if there are multiple optional courses to choose from, as it sets the total number of courses that must be completed. Alternatively, the criteria may be determined by the number of credits earned.
B) 1 Required Course and 1 Optional Course
In this scenario, learners are required to complete one mandatory course and have the option to choose one course from a selection of two optional courses.
Courses used in this example:
The rule will be structured as shown in this image:
C) 1 Required Course from 1 group AND 1 Required Course from another group

The rule will be structured as depicted in this image:
External Equivalent Courses
Any external equivalent courses will be displayed as COMPLETED within a Learning Path. Please note that these external equivalent courses do not have an expiration date and therefore will be COMPLETED for any active Learning Path.
Self-Registration
If the "Should Enroll Learner" option is set to No during the creation of the Learning Path, learners have the flexibility to select which courses they wish to enroll in that are associated with the Learning Path.
This process can be easily accomplished by logging into the Learner Dashboard and navigating to the Learning Path tab after enrollment in the Learning Path.
