Introduction
A Learning Path is a set of related courses that, when completed, can award a Certificate of Completion to the learner.
Learning Paths can also enroll learners into multiple courses simultaneously. When you create learners in bulk, you can "pre-load" them into a Learning Path, ensuring that they are assigned the required courses.
Creating Learning Paths
To create or edit a Learning Path, navigate to the Learning Paths tab and click on Add Learning Path.
Here is a list of the fields that are part of a Learning Path.
- Name- The name of the Learning Path
- Category- Category associated with the Learning Path (Optional)
- Status- Active or Archived
- Affiliation- The Affiliation that the Learning Path is available for (Optional)
- Self-Registration- Yes or No, determines if the learner can enroll themselves into the courses within the Learning Path. Please note that if there is a charge associated with the section the learner is enrolling in, the charge will be added to their account even if there is a price associated with the Learning Path.
- Should Enroll Learner into Courses- Yes or No, this value decides if the learner should be automatically enrolled into pre-determined sections within the learning path.
- Duration (days)- The duration (in days) of the Learning Path
- Price- Price of the Learning Path (Optional)
- Tags- Tags that need attached to the Learning Path (Optional)
- Highlighted- Adds a star to the Learning Path in the Catalog (Optional)
- Available For Registration- Yes or No, this value decides if the Learning Path is available in the catalog for a learner to enroll. If no, learners are not able to manually enroll into the Learning Path and will need manually enrolled from the backend
- Payment Options- This is used to determine what payment options are available at checkout. If no choice is made, then all Payment Options will be available (Optional)
- Short Description- Description of the Learning Path that is visible while navigating the catalog (Optional)
- Long Description- The description of the Learning Path that can be seen after clicking the Enroll or More Info button within the catalog (Optional)
- Video Tutorial- Accepts YouTube or Vimeo URLs. Adds a video to the Long Description in the catalog (Optional)
- Keywords- Words added to this field will allow the Learning Path to show if a learner searches by one of the keywords within the catalog (Optional)
- Catalog Image- Enter the URL that is created after uploading an image into the File Upload section of the Administration menu (Optional)
- Certificate- Choose which certificate is awarded to the learner upon completion of the Learning Path (Optional)
- Expires and Renew Rules- Sets the rules that determine if a Learning Path expires and how long before the Learning Path can be renewed
- Courses- Where the courses that make up the Learning Path are added
- Completion Rule- Determines the requirements that need met to complete the Learning Path
You can upload an image to provide a preview for the Course Catalog and define a grouped price for the Learning Path, as opposed to opting for individual course prices.
Adding Courses to a Learning Path
Once the basic information is filled out, begin adding courses to the Learning Path. Click on Add a course button in the Courses section of the Learning Path, and a window will appear where you can:
- Select the courses to add (must include at least two)
- Define the sort order for the courses in the Learning Path
Auto Expire
Enabling ‘Auto Expire’, after a period, will mark the Learning Path as “expired”. The expiration date is calculated based on the Start Date of the enrollment in the Learning Path.
Auto Renew
Enabling ‘Auto Renew’, will trigger the system to reenroll the learner in the same Learning Path to renew the certification or program.
Completion Rule
Based on different completion variables, such as the number of courses completed in the Learning Path, number of Credits earned from the Learning Path, or which courses are completed in the Learning Path, one can control when a learner is marked as “Complete” in the Learning Path.
Examples of Completion Rules
- 3 Required Courses: Specify that three required courses must be completed.
2. 1 Required Course and 1 Optional Course: Set one required course and choose one from two optional courses.

Self-Registration
If Self-Registration is set to Yes when creating the Learning Path, the Learner will be able to choose which course to enroll in after signing up for the Learning Path. This is accomplished by logging into the Learner Dashboard and clicking on the Learning Path tab after enrolling into the Learning Path.
Please note that if there is a cost associated with a section that is linked to the Learning Path, the charge will be added to the Learner’s account after enrolling into the section in the Learning Path, even if the Learning Path had an initial charge to enroll. The cost is shown to the Learner before they click enroll into the section.
