Introduction
Typically, an organization that has an e-Learning initiative in place also has a Learning Management System that helps serve the teaching and learning content consumed by your learners. The Learning Management System is the application that students use in order to access their course, complete assignments, and submit work. Some examples of LMS include Blackboard Learn, Brightspace D2L, Instructure Canvas, Buzz, and Moodle, amongst others.
The LMS and Genius+
The Learning Management System and Genius CE & Enterprise products have a special relationship and will typically integrate closely to ensure that you get the most out of your instance of our solution. The integration between Genius CE & Enterprise and your LMS will be bidirectional. This means that Genius CE & Enterprise will send information to the LMS, and the LMS will also send information back to Genius CE & Enterprise as learners begin to engage with their coursework.
What Genius+ sends to the LMS
As an Administrator, you will make use of Genius CE & Enterprise products to create, edit, remove courses, sections, users, and enrollments. This information is typically fed back to the LMS, allowing you to manage your teaching and learning initiative from a central location.
In general, information sent from Genius CE & Enterprise to the LMS may include:
Typically, Genius CE & Enterprise products and your LMS will also have a SAML authentication integration. This makes it possible for learners to sign into Genius CE or Enterprise and then make use of your Learner's Dashboard to access their coursework without having to provide their login information again. This process is known as Single Sign-On. In some organizations, either the LMS or Genius CE or Enterprise will be integrated with the Azure Active Directory or SAML server at your organization. Typically, only one of the two (the LMS or Genius CE/Enterprise) needs to be integrated with the authentication provider at your organization.
What the LMS sends back to Genius CE & Enterprise
Once your learners begin to make progress in their courses in the LMS, they will begin to have both grades and progress information that must be made visible in order to better manage your teaching and learning initiative.
To make this possible, the LMS will send the following information back to Genius CE or Enterprise:
The scope of the integration between the LMS at your organization and Genius CE & Enterprise will depend both on the LMS you are using in your teaching and learning initiative, and your organization's own preferences.
